INSTITUTE FOR INDIAN MOTHER & CHILD

Area Coverage

Ideally IIMC don’t believe in working only in a particular area as it believes in responding to the human need anywhere in the globe. However, presently it overall covers West Bengal, India, keeping focus on both North and South 24 Parganas & 8 districts in West Bengal. The Indian government considers the whole 24 Parganas as ‘economically backward districts’ and the southern parts, rural areas adjacent to Sundarbans, suffer most from this backwardness. And, among all the districts of the state, the 24 Parganas score highest by population, and they are poor. By area, because of its backwardness, it has minimal share of governmental development; they therefore depend of whatever ‘mother nature’ provide them, for instant, farming, fishing, selling manual labour and illegal logging.
